As we head into fall and winter, being proactive about having the proper supplies for road trips is a great idea!  A car's trunk is the perfect place to store an emergency kit. The following is a list of essentials that might come in handy in case you get into trouble.  Smaller items listed could be carried in the glove compartment for easier access:

•·         Flashlight

•·         Spare tire

•·         Jack

•·         Four-way lug wrench

•·         Water pump belt

•·         Tire pressure gauge

•·         Wrench and socket set

•·         Utility knife

•·         Both standard and Phillips screwdrivers

•·         Jumper cables

•·         Pliers

•·         Fuses

•·         Hose clamps

•·         One quart of motor oil

•·         A few dollars in quarters

•·         Six road flares or a set of reflective warning triangles

•·         One gallon of water in a plastic jug

•·         Flat tire fixer

•·         Small fire extinguisher

•·         Rags or paper towels

•·         Blanket

•·         In the winter, consider a bag of sand

I had gone without one of these for a while and now I put one in my car just in case.

Hi Jim and Linda - Great tips!  When I travelled a lot in Upstate New York, I always had sleeping bags in the trunk or back seat.  Fortunately I never got stuck, but if I had, a blanket would not have been enough during some of those winters!
