Wow! Yesterday was one of those days that first had me wondering what I was doing in the business and then reminding me what I like about it all within hours. First, a client (sweet young couple) who had an accepted offer on a great house called to tell me that the husband had just lost his job. Oh no! The almost certain financing dissolved. After commiserating with them and assuring them that I could get their earnest money back, I received a call from a listing agent of a property that another client had written on a few weeks back. The seller had refused to consider their offer then, but with winter looming ever closer, the seller decided to make a counter offer. After a little negotiating, we managed to put together a deal that made everyone happy. Joy!
I feel drained but exhilarated because I see that nothing is certain. Those first clients may be back in a few weeks, exited about a new job and ready to buy. They will call me because I was hopeful and supportive in their time of need. Oh yes, and I'm a hero to the other clients because I was able to broker a deal that seemed impossible. I guess that pretty much explains why I love the real estate business and will press onward searching for the inevitable highs after the inevitable lows.
