A Visit to Lake Waccamaw in Brunswick County NC

By
Real Estate Agent with BlueCoast Realty Corporation

While I was busy with Clients today, Cheeky Assistant took the girls and went "adventuring".  They ended up at Lake Waccamaw in Brunswick County, NC and had a chance to see some beautiful scenery and a few of the local inhabitants.

Lake Waccamaw is more than 9000 acres and has 14 miles of shoreline.  The Green Swamp, located near Lake Waccamaw State Park was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974 and is home to the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, the eastern diamondback rattlesnake, Bachman's sparrow and the American alligator.

Cheeky Assistant strongly suggests a day trip to Lake Waccamaw, especially now that it's a little cooler and the trees are beginning to change colors.  But you better step lively, I understand these guys are pretty FAST!

Tish - One of the things that I miss most since we moved away from Florida is the wildlife sanctuaries where you could see alligators and other creatures in their natural habitat.  Thanks for the post, even though you didn't get to enjoy it first hand either!!

Tish, I love the turtles but the "gators" would not be my friends. Scary. Beautiful work here in this post. I feel like I came for a visit. You know this is my favorite part of blogging. Love it!

Mel ~ Shucks, I'll have to check with her and get back to you.  I think she really does a great job with it.  Don't know what I'd do without her.  We do have our moments, but still can't imagine not working together after all of these years!

Chris ~ I was brought-up learning to enjoy the simple things in life.  It really is an everyday adventure, if you make it so.  I was there a couple of months ago with my Grandson, and the pictures really do take you back.  Of course, what I missed was the girls reaction.

Jeanean ~ It's really kind of bizarre -- you're riding along and you're just looking out at the beautiful, serene lake on one side and the green swampy area on the other when you see an alligator, or two or three, or four!

Trish- what nice pictures of The Green Swamp near Lake Waccamaw. It looks like a great place to get out and enjoy looking at nature. I love the turtle picture and the moss hanging on the tress. Thanks for sharing.

Diane ~ Thanks.  I don't know why, but I love seeing the moss hanging from the trees.  Green Swamp seems to be so out of place at first visit.  Lake Waccamaw is really quite nice.  Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Tish ~ Tell cheeky assistant; "Ya done good!"  I love her photo's.  She's much gutsier than I am.  I'd say, oh go ahead and get her that wide angle lens, but I can't afford to pay for it! :)D

Hi Folks!  CA here.  Thanks to all of you that have suggested I receive the camera of my dreams.  I've been asking for quite some time, but "Herself" seems to go deaf everytime I mention it.  Bet if I hide the secret chocolate a little better she'll be able to hear me.

Ms. Staples:  I think you know what I'm talking about -- I saw those gorgeous pics you took on your vacation!  Thanks for your vote!

Ms. Wagner:  I use a Fuji S8100.  It's a great camera for most things, I'd just like to have an extra lens or two.
