Lake Conroe MarinaWhen the outdoors calls your name and just will not let you persist in your ordered indoor activities, what will you do? If you are like many, you will eventually give in to your urge to get outside, and go somewhere. Even if it is just out to your patio, or to dig in the ground, you owe yourself some real vitamin D laced with as fresh a source for air as you can reasonably find.

This is one of those time when you may wish that you lived close to a lake or other outdoor haven. There is some kind of magic about sunlight dancing on the water.

Yesterday, we were faced with a day when inside just would not do. Cabin fever had evolved into a full scale illness. The indoor chores were done quickly to allow as much of the day as possible to be spent in the great outdoors.

Leisure is not something we have much of, to tell the truth. There were still plenty of chores in the house and yard that should have had our attention, but we decided that there was not anything that could not wait til tomorrow.

North was our chosen direction and we headed out without any specifics in mind. Planning takes time and something might have come up to dissuade our decision to get away for the day. We figured that we have been showing other people this area for 30+ years. Yesterday we decided to show it to ourselves.

Tomball was the first stop. It had been a long time since we had really taken the time to experience the charm of the downtown area. Behind a rainbow of colors sits a myriad of eclectic shopping experiences. Most of these specialty shops are designed to show you how to pamper yourself. After a short period of soaking up the ambiance we enlarged our circle of fun. Unfortunately we had already lunched before we escaped Houston. The Whistle Stop is a great restaurant we have enjoyed in the past. It is a precious Tea Room where home made good food combined with interesting antiques create4s a delightful old fashioned environment. Across Main street are lots of other shopping joys. It would have been easy to spend the day here and find all our Christmas bargains and decorations. This was a day about being outside though so having absorbed all the culture we could stand for the day, we got back in the car and headed North again.

Cloudless blue sky framed the vistas bordered by white rail fencing and forest patches as we followed the asphalt toward Magnolia. When we crossed FM 1488 it appeared that our destination was going to be marvelous Montgomery. Did we want to explore historical sights, participate in the 1st Saturday of the month farmers market? This day appeared to be destined to spend lake side.

There is a Starbucks at Lake Conroe which has a view of a marina and a portion of the lake with a lovely forest fringe in the distance. The wind caressed our faces with a cool breeze. Periodically small gusts would send unsecured napkins etc flying, but not too far.

Small manned crafts paraded up and down the waterways displaying navigational skills of the assorted captains. There was always something amusing to watch. We extended our leisure into the late afternoon and even then were reluctant to leave. Totally rejuvenated and relaxed we headed back into the city. After the day with no stress and no pressure, we found we were ready to take on whatever came our way. Hopefully we will not wait so long to repeat the experience. Have you awarded yourself with a day off lately? Why not!

Hello Jeanne & Ralph! I'm located in Madisonville, TX - just an hour or so away taking the backroads through Anderson and Magnolia. I used to go through Tomball every Sunday when I lived in the Woodlands area and attended a church near Hockley. Tomball always seemed alive with activity, and quite charming! Glad to meet some agents from there.
