Josephine County Historical Society - Passport To History
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!
Josephine County Historical Society's Passport To History program wrapped up with our get-together at the Bear Hotel on Saturday, October 2nd.
I'm certain that the entire membership of the Josephine County Historical Society and all of the 50 businesses and groups who hosted all of the visitors so courteously, will join in honoring Jean Boling who put the program together for the benefit of our county.
Jean worked tirelessly, and was always available for help and guidance.
We wish to thank all of the wonderful people who belong to the Josephine County Historical Society who were involved in this interesting study of our history.
The Josephine County Historical Society was founded in 1960. I remember 1960, as I graduated from high school that year, and I think my wife was still being potty trained prior to her first birthday.
We are such a young county, with such a fascinating past, our history is still being discovered.
Jean hosted a fun evening at the Bear Hotel across town, and I think most everyone present won a prize.
Since the Josephine County Historical Society does not receive any government funding; state, county or local, I know a lot of the passport program expenses came right out of Jean's pocket. Talk about dedication and generosity!
Many of the members were in the clothing of the 1800's, and Darrell and Margaret Stafford appeared as Thomas and Hannah Croxton, our prominent pioneer founders.
Roger Brandt gave us very interesting news -- The Siskiyou Smokejumper Base that Roger has taken under his wing has been named the only remaining original Smokejumper Base in the world!
That means we need to promote the construction of the "National Smokejumper Historical Museum." This will be a worldwide attraction for Josephine County! Thanks Roger!
We would acknowledge so many people for their generous contributions, and their kindness, but this evening really is a tribute to Jean Boling!
Thanks Jean!
