All of us have an ideal of what our perfect home should be and in this time when homes are not selling, many sellers are resorting to fixing their present homes up the way they would love them to be, whether that is sellable or not is another story. With at least over 85% of the people being employed, many of them would like to move, but in the wake of this depressed market they are in their minds fixing up their homes and adding on or whatever it takes to feel great about staying in their present homes since they cannot sell in this market.
Unless you are actually on the verge of selling your home, the first goal of a remodeling should really be to satisfy your needs. When the project makes your home more enjoyable, confortable and convienient for you, it may make sense even if it is not a high value improvement.
There are tables published every year about the payback of major home improvements by the National Association of Realtors. I will be glad to provide them to you if you are considering a major investment into your property. They can serve as at least guidelines to your considerations in remodeling.
