Vacation??? Really???

Shhhhhhh... Don't tell my family I am writing this blog right now. You see I am "on vacation". As a real estate agent; I've never taken a real vacation. There seems to be a file or two that requires attention even though I have colleagues that can take over or work hard to close them before I leave. I have been officially barred from taking my computer; but they never said I can't take a glad drive. YES!!!!!!! All I need is the business center and I'm in business. My son gave me the third degree. Apparently he is convinced that mom is incapable of shutting down. Of course, it's my duty to discount that assertion; as I'm sneaking copies of the file into my carry on. I'm always surprised at how much you can fit into the momma bag. I even throw in some snack foods over the files to officially hide them. Calls are still needing to be made or received. As my own short sale negotiator; I must obtain updates and make sure these files are moving. How can I tell a worried and anxious seller that my time with Mickey Mouse is taking over their file closure. I know my boundaries and my family is first. But if I can squeeze in that call while they are still sleeping or send that email while they are on that spine pulling ride for the 10th time then I try. The fun never ends. While

It is VERY HARD to achieve good work/life balance, isn't it?  A struggle for many of us.  I am lucky to have people cover for me but that does not end it entirely by a long shot>  You still have to make the phone calls and send emails at the minimum and then tell the person covering what to do or how to do it!

Hi Helena - Good luck with your vacation.  Just as a warning, don't take any cell phone calls around Jafar (from Aladdin).  I have actually seen him take a phone away from someone and end the call!  : )

I think I'll start taking more of them.  While away for a short three days, I received confirmation of a new listing, had a buyer call and a referral.  Whoo hoo. Energized and ready to hit the ground running today! (But I'll admit - I was checking email and did take those calls while those vacation days).  I agree you can fit in a call or too to keep you from letting a client down, but it is important to decompress once in a while.
