QR Codes. You can link them to your website, a phone contact, an email adress or social media - just for starters. And it is simple to create the code. QR Stuff has made it really simple. You select the data type, content, color & output type. Within seconds you have a QR Code that looks like this.
This QR Code works. So get your smart phone out & scan it. Every smart phone has the capability for scanning, you'll just need to download a scanner app for your phone if you don't have it already. In fact, on QR Stuff, they also list the various phone software for mobile phones. Or you can go to the marketplace on your phone to search for scanner software. Simple. Free.
On our team, we were talking about the various ways to implement the QR Code for listings & website advertising. After all, once the information is scanned on a cell phone, it can be bookmarked & saved by the consumer. Pretty cool.
Now for the "Too Much Sharing" question. Here is the scenario. I saw a QR Code the other day on another realtor's vehicle. When I scanned it, the information that came up was the agent's phone number in contact form, ready for saving to my address book. Much easier than trying to write down a phone number from a sign or trying to remember the agent's name to Google later. However, it made me take a little trip to the dark side of human nature.
What if this agent was out and about on a non-business related activity? And had inadvertently cut someone off in traffic. Or in a social situation where someone had approached & was turned down? Or just caught the eye of the wrong person? Now that person scans the code when the time is right and has the phone number in a matter of seconds. Now you could argue that the phone number could be obtained easily anyway, since it belongs to a realtor who shares it with the public. That's true. But the accessibility isn't instant and who is really going to go to the trouble once some time has passed. This scan makes the heat of moment much more relevant - both for business and for something else. Am I just a worrywart? Does the benefit outweigh the risk? I'd really enjoy hearing your thoughts on the topic.
