Jury Duty - Does self-employed mean anything anymore

By
Real Estate Agent with The Adam and Eric Group 01499486

I just received a summons for Jury Duty.  Now I would love to do my civic duty but I have a newborn and I am the sole  provider for my family.  As we all know in this Real Estate market any time off can mean lost business.

I submitted I was self employed and any time away from work would create financial hardship.  I heard lately this reason is not enough to be excused.

They now have call in Jurors.  For those of you who have not heard of this it is: You call in the day before you are scheduled and they tell you to come in or not.  You have to do this for a week, and if they do not need you the entire week, you are done.

I would have this as I could not make appointments, would have to cancel at the last minute.

Well, it would be nice to be excused, but this government needs us to survive.

I thought with a newbourn baby you could be excused. I was, but that was also 15 years ago. My son was only  weeks old at the time. I was excused based on his age. Did you call to ask about that ? They don't care about employment but the baby should excuse you.

Don't feel bad.  I get called every six months year in and year out.  I have yet to be selected, just figure that I'm going to spend half a day every so often sitting in a court room.  I'm just glad that I'm on the correct side of the rail.

I have voted in every election since I was 18 years old- 28 years ago and never have I been called to jury duty......................I know many people who have been called repeatedly like you - our crime and legal disputes per capita must be low......

I guess it does.  My request to be excused was just granted.

LOL-- Just say that if they were arrested by the police-- they MUST BE GUILTY...

Or just point to one of the parties in a civil suit-- and say that they should pay (for no reason)...

Either you get dismissed from the jury-- or slapped with contempt of court..

LOL

I have only been called to be on Jury duty once and that was 20+ years ago, and I never had to go in......Very lucky I guess.
