Ft. Loudon Lake. This is the closest and most lived on lake in the Knoxville area. Being at the headwaters of the Tennessee River, you can boat from Knoxville to anywhere in the world starting right here. There are many Lakefront homes for sale on this lake and many Lakefront lots for sale that you can build your own dream home on.
Tellico Lake. This lake is connected to Ft. Loudon and thus shares the ability to navigate the world. Tellico Lake is home to many active retirement developments including Tellico Village, Rarity Bay, and Rarity Pointe, just to name a few.
Watts Bar and Melton Hill Lakes. I have lumped these lakes together since they are connected through a lock. Watts Bar is the next lake below Ft. Loudon on the Tennessee River System. Both of these lakes have beautiful shorelines that support many residential developments and offer many opportunities to get a Lakefront home at a very affordable price.
Douglas and Norris Lakes. Both of these gems have been enjoyed by the home town crowd for a long time. But now they are starting to attract attention from the retiree market. Both have some excellent residential developments and are favorably priced. Neither of these lakes have locks through their dams which prohibit boat travel beyond each lake. Below each of these are some of the better fishing tailwaters in east TN.
Cherokee Lake. This is probably the least utilized lake around Knoxville. While there are some great developments they are scattered around the lake. This lake offers the best deal of all the lakes in this area.
