The New Normal - Sure You Betcha

Today at a very inspiring and uplifting monthly business meeting a national speaker (of whom will remain nameless at this point) said something quite provocative to us....

"The New Normal is full of baloney.  Everything is New and Nothing is Normal."  And you know, from my feelings to your feelings to the general consensus 'out there' he's right on the money. Just about everybody at this meeting was feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and not sure if continuing to keep on trying was the right thing to do.

Everything is New. And Nothing is Normal. From a gazillion foreclosures, to stacks of short sales, to working with clients trying our best to maneuver them through bank landmines, to making ends meet, to cheering the team on day after day, to make the 'best' out of challenging times.....need I go on?  Folks these are not fun times for most of us. Nothing looks like we thought it would and most likely won't ever again.

But and this is a BIG BUT......it's how we deal with these challenges that makes us stronger, wiser and more adaptable to change (or not).  Do you agree?  Do you see yourself in this picture?  I sure do.

A gal at the meeting asked me, "So Banana, what are you doing differently that somehow keeps you optimistic and feeling good?" This is it folks and I'm sorry if it disappoints you cause it's not rocket science - nope it's just plain and simple.

You ready?  I mean are you ready - really?

My job is to feel good.  That is it.  When I feel good the day goes better, solutions come easier, people work well together - it all just works better.  And yes I can hear some of you say - you're so full of cra*! Oh well maybe I am but I feel good and that works for me.

Seriously, I have made feeling good a daily practice.  Upon waking I pick up an inspiring book and read while having my morning coffee and I journal as I read. If there is an issue that's troubling me I ask for an answer then expect it to come....and it does.  Sometimes it's a matter of simply journaling about all that I'm so grateful for in my life, sometimes it's finding just the right inspiring message to take me 'off me' and seeing a bigger picture or meaning to life and sometimes it's just being quiet and still.

That is it....Plain and simple my job is to get happy and feeling good anyway that works for me

I have a feeling this message will find the right folks who want to hear this, need to hear this and/or are looking for the secret stash of feeling good juice.  Do whatever you need to do - day in and day out to feel good, to find something to feel good about and with practice feeling good will come easier and easier.

What do you have to loose by trying this method - well - besides feeling lousy?

Your job is to simply feel good.

Spectacular post, I looked for the god button but it was gone.  I was having an anxious week and you reminded me you can't have a negative and a positive thought at the same time.  Thanks.

Nice work, Anna. Whatever someone's interpretation of "feeling good" is, is what they should strive for.

Good morning Anna Banana! Love the post, and love the simplicity of it. You're absolutely right. I went into a colleague's office today and she said "everything's going right, and that's the problem". I threw up my hands and said WAIT! Get a tape recorder and let's repeat that. Everything's going right and that's the problem??!? I stopped her and we talked about it for a bit. So much of our lives is simply perspective. Choose to be happy today! I'm with you!

Hi Anna,  I also remind myself how blessed I am in so many ways.  About a year ago I found a very negative agent in our office and decided that staying far away from him was necessary.  It has worked wonders in so many ways !

Anna, I gotta tell you!  Right now I'm glad that foreclosures and short sales are not a part of my business.  You guys work so hard, and it sounds like a lot of bank owned stuff is going to get delayed on the way to the settlement table.

Patricia - consider yourself lucky. We do work 4 times as hard, sometime don't get paid and we work with lots of folks who are having tough tough times.  It's the people and doing what I can for them that keeps me doing it.  We'll see how the foreclousre thing works out.  Might be good as banks might be open to doing short sales quicker and without so much craziness.

Danielle - it is simply to be shared by as many who want to play with it.  It works!!

Anna, After reading your blog, I walked into my library and pulled three books down from the shelves that are favorites of mine and so fitting with your blog.  The first by Keith Harrell entitled Attitude is Everything. The second by Lynn Grabhorn is Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting and the third is John Maxwell's Attitude 101.  Keep up the good work, the good attitude and as Wayne Dyer would say: Excuses Begone - it is all about Choices.  Stay in touch.

Anna, thank you for sharing your thoughts - and you, too, Gayle!  We can't be moaning about the past when we have such a tremendous opportunity in front of us right now.  The fact that people truly need us gives us all the chance to make a difference right now - and that's what it's all about.  I am extremely grateful for that opportunity every day!

Anna,

From the amount of comments, it looks like it found the right people.  Simple and straighforward, very well said.  Thanks for the reminder.  It is amazing how much better the day is when you commit to this attitude.  Thanks for posting.

All the best!

Gayle it is about attitude and feeling good by choice over and over all day long - despite what we're all dealing with these days.  All three of you books are an excellent read as is Wayne as I've been a student of his since his very first book!  Nice to see you on AR - keep on coming back!

Cindy I am a true believer that we create what we're thinking about - and I mean everything we think about. So we may as well focus on what we want to create and our visions rather than 'what is' cause we'll just create more of 'what is' and that may not be what we want.........follow that!

Kevin if there is one think I know for sure this isn't rocket science and it truly is that simple.  We humans want to complicate things so much....give it up!  Just follow this one simple thing and life will improve in amazing ways day by day by day.  Glad to see you Kevin!
