Recovery stories

Ok, we've heard all of the sad stories of people losing their jobs and houses. But who has a good story about people who have made a comeback after a short sale or foreclosure? Really, what everyone needs to be thinking about in a time of famine is how to get back to making things work again. Although some will have lower credit scores at the end of all of this, they may still have found a way to make a good living in 2010-2011 and beyond.

Sure, tell me about the trouble and the struggle, but then tell me what they or you are doing NOW to make some money. To get back on your feet. How did you or they navigate through the difficult waters with your head up high? I'm sure there is a lot we could learn from each other in this regard.

Tom: This is an interesting post because I was thinking this morning--I started to review my own situation and, thankfully, I have made it with a number of good transactions that got me through the drought...then I thought to call a dear friend who works for me--she cleans my house when I need her and her husband lost his job so they were in the process of foreclosure. I called her to see how she had handled my suggestion; I made the suggestion that she contact our local representative for Southampton.. She wrote him a letter; a detailed letter that laid it all out for the congressman to see. He gave her the time and found a way through the OCC (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) to get her mortage refinanced so that her payments are smaller and she will not lose her house! Now she is doing just fine--I do get her jobs and her husband is back at work, thank goodness!

Paula: Thank you so much for your story. I'm sure that all throughout history times of famine have occurred, and even in this case we all need to work hard and be smart.... We as individuals did not cause this situation.... but we are responsible to provide for our families in spite of it...
