After being closed for almost 3 years, the bridge on the Lafayette/Vermilion parish line finally opened a couple of weeks ago. The bridge was deemed unsafe in 2007 and too damaged to be repaired. Now, residents who travel between Maurice and Lafayette can finally cross the parish line using the brand new bridge that links Kirk Road in Maurice and Robley Drive in Lafayette.
If you are traveling on that road, note that the speed limit drops to 30 MPH when you enter Vermilion parish so be careful.
As a resident of Maurice, and someone who uses that road quite often, it's been a pleasure to be able to use the road again to cross the parish line. I have a feeling that many other residents in the area feel the same.
