Last week Brunswick County, NC received between 8-22 inches of rain in a short period of time. Many roads were closed due to bridges and ditches that were swamped and overflowed. Concrete canals on Ocean Isle Beach collapsed creating havoc for over twenty homeowners. When the Brunswick Beacon was published this week, the paper was full of sad stories about homeowners up and down the coast dealing with destroyed homes and no insurance to assist with repairs. I do feel sad for them. Not only did they lose family memorabilia but they also lost most of the basics that make a house a home...it is sad. Flood insurance in our area is not that expensive. Why did they not have it? In my opinion, for years they have played Russian Roulette...it was coming...you just didn't know when.
