Ok, I'm not suggesting that kind of bender. Drunk dialing, texting and videotapting is bad enough. We don't need for anyone to start drunk blogging anytime soon. I can't imagine that would be very productive. But I am an advocate of going on a reading and comment bender, when your blog is stagnant.
Read For Ideas
One of the hardest things for people to do, is come up with thoughts for a blog post. For me, some of my best ideas come from reading the posts of others. Furthermore, I try to read the replies of others, to that content. Not only does the input of others help, but my own creative juices flow, as I try to think of an salient comment to offer. My comment might not be precisely what the author had in mind, which leads me to write an entirely new post of my own.
A Great Way To Catch Up
I have to be honest- you people write a crazy amount of content, and it's a part time job, just trying to keep up. When you go on vacation in this business, it takes a day or two to catch up. The same goes for blogging. You miss a day, you miss a lot. You miss a week, and the world on AR has changed. Listing links have been added, agents write fantastic posts- a lot can happen in a few days. Perhaps the productivity of your normal day keeps you from tending to your blog and those of others. That isn't such a bad thing.
But we need to post regularly, and we need to comment. My answer to that, is to use your down time, to catch up on such things. Besides my earlier assertion, that activity breeds activity, commenting on the posts of others, will result in them coming back to your posts. It may take a few days, maybe even a week or two, but you will see an increase. It takes me a while to catch up on agents submissions, but I try to read as many posts as possible.
When To Bend
Everyone has a different time for reading posts and commenting. For me, it's late at night or first thing in the morning. Rarely do I have time during the day to contribute as much as I would like. Fridays can be an exception. The same goes for the rest of the weekend. Sounds like it's time to go off. That may mean 40 or 50 comments in a day. This weekend, I'm going to try for 200.
I'm a huge football fan, but I have to be realistic. For every minute of action, there are several minutes of announcers babbling, dumb interviews, time outs and commercials. What a good time to open up the laptop, and go on an Activerain bender.
We'll see if I can go on a reading and comment bender as good as The Hoff. I trust mine will yield better results.
