Is Your Blog Stagnant? You Might Want To Go On A Bender

By

Ok, I'm not suggesting that kind of bender. Drunk dialing, texting and videotapting is bad enough. We don't need for anyone to start drunk blogging anytime soon. I can't imagine that would be very productive. But I am an advocate of going on a reading and comment bender, when your blog is stagnant.

Read For Ideas

One of the hardest things for people to do, is come up with thoughts for a blog post. For me, some of my best ideas come from reading the posts of others. Furthermore, I try to read the replies of others, to that content. Not only does the input of others help, but my own creative juices flow, as I try to think of an salient comment to offer. My comment might not be precisely what the author had in mind, which leads me to write an entirely new post of my own.

A Great Way To Catch Up

I have to be honest- you people write a crazy amount of content, and it's a part time job, just trying to keep up. When you go on vacation in this business, it takes a day or two to catch up. The same goes for blogging. You miss a day, you miss a lot. You miss a week, and the world on AR has changed. Listing links have been added, agents write fantastic posts- a lot can happen in a few days. Perhaps the productivity of your normal day keeps you from tending to your blog and those of others. That isn't such a bad thing.

But we need to post regularly, and we need to comment. My answer to that, is to use your down time, to catch up on such things.  Besides my earlier assertion, that activity breeds activity, commenting on the posts of others, will result in them coming back to your posts. It may take a few days, maybe even a week or two, but you will see an increase. It takes me a while to catch up on agents submissions, but I try to read as many posts as possible.

When To Bend

Everyone has a different time for reading posts and commenting. For me, it's late at night or first thing in the morning. Rarely do I have time during the day to contribute as much as I would like. Fridays can be an exception. The same goes for the rest of the weekend. Sounds like it's time to go off. That may mean 40 or 50 comments in a day. This weekend, I'm going to try for 200.

I'm a huge football fan, but I have to be realistic. For every minute of action, there are several minutes of announcers babbling, dumb interviews, time outs and commercials. What a good time to open up the laptop, and go on an Activerain bender.

We'll see if I can go on a reading and comment bender as good as The Hoff. I trust mine will yield better results.

Scott,

Excellent advice.  I need a bender, as I have not written much recently, but have done a bunch of commenting.  Love the idea of commenting during the game, plenty of time!

All the best, Michelle

You know Scott....I had trouble getting started blogging, then....I got started and then.... started trying too hard to keep going. I noticed when I stopped all my efforts, things to write about presented themselves ....one after another and all I had to do was make little notes and send myself emails or texts and get to them later Now, the time to get to them later is my next issue....but so far so good......Thank you Scott

Scott, see what photos can do for your comments!   Good job on this post and your Feature!     100 comments, that is quite a feat - good luck.    I think I have commented about 30-40 at most in one day.   But, there are days you feel like reading and reading, but other days you have to do business!

Oh my goodness, the photo almost knocked me out of my chair laughing.  I don't have a number for commenting, but I have a set time to browse and read in the Rain.  Whatever works for you...do it!

Scott,

I have been in the RE business for 23 years and am still learning so much from this AR forum. It is "give and take". That is where we get the most out of it. We all have different times that we like to comment and write blogs. Believe it or not, the middle of the night, when I can't sleep, blogging relaxes me! The bender analogy cracked me up!

There's never a right time.  I'm like you.  I tend to catch up early in the morning or late at night.  I've grown so much in that I've learned so much from all the wonderful professionals on this network in such a short time.  Thanks so much for being one of them.

For me Scott, I blogging on one day during the week when everything is flowing and then I edit them before I post them during the week. I know that's not the best way but I really want to post more often so I'm working on that.

I'm working on commenting on post now too the best time for me to comment is late at night after visiting my social networks.

Congratulations on the Gold Star! I love to read posts, comments, and leave comments. Then go back and check to see if there was a response to my comment. It really helps to get to know the person.

I found it hard to keep up with that however when I was posting a blog everyday for 30 days. I was at my computer late at night and early in the morning and my husband was beginning to wonder. LOL

Nice post Scott - the first picture caught me a little off guard - I am trying to get back into blogging.  I took Katerina Gassett's classes and knew i had to over haul a lot on my website - now I am done and ready to get back at it - your post has inspired me to just comment as a minimum!

Love the pic. AR is like when youtube came out. Once you get started, you can spend countless hours here, reading and commenting. I have to make it a point to start reading and making comments at night, so I can get more done during the day.

Scott.. I agree, reading both posts and comments can get the juices flowing... but I did the 30 to 50 comments a day when I first joined... I think I was averaging about 28 a day for a year... I got burnt out... especially since most of my comments tend to be mini posts. In any case, just not enough time in the day to read more than 10 to 15 posts a day anymore.. but good food for thought for some.

Hi Scott, Just curious to see how you were doing with the 200 comments this weekend. I am always amazed at what we can accomplish when we set a goal and work to achieve it. It should make for another interesting post when you are done, plus lots of great ideas for more posts, have fun.

I think that we have had a few "drunk" bloggers in my time on Active Rain.  the term makes me laugh.  I do like the idea of a blogging bender.  There is so much content here that I can't even hope to catch up.
