I went to my leads group yesterday and heard Gary Barnes talk. If you haven't hear of Gary, you should look him up- and try to go to one of his talks.
He is a pretty amazing guy and his story would probably take all day to tell. Not that I know his whole story, but what I did hear was very intriguing and it took place after the leads group ended.
One of the really cool things he did yesterday when we spoke was to help me focus on what my "brand" might be. I know that we have all heard and spoken of personal branding until we are blue in the face.... but this was a really great
exercise. He asked me what made me stand out from my competition. Man, I hate that question sometimes.
Of course, I hemmed and hawwed a little, until he said "Tell me about what you offer your clients, what your clients might tell people about YOU."
Well, that's another story altogether. I told the story of a buyer client who fell in love with a home that needed radon mitigation and a sewer replacement. (This may sound familiar if you've read my blog) The bottom line was that the buyer and seller were getting into a pi$$ing match over $895 on a house that the buyer's wife LOVED and the seller wanted to get out of. I told him that, after being sure that this WAS, indeed, the home they wanted, I paid for the mitigation myself. Not something I always do or will always do, but here it seemed appropriate.
Gary then asked another member to tell him what she heard me saying. she started to say "Jennifer goes above and beyond for her clients. She offers that little something extra to get the job done."
Gary said "so, you're the Baker's Dozen Agent."
Huh. I like it. Plus, I'm a BAKER!!!!
Now I need to play with it a bit to make it my own without it being too smarmy. "Going Above and Beyond" is a cliche- whether it's true or not. The Baker's Dozen makes you think a bit more and still says what I would like to convey.
What do you think? Maybe I could bake cookies for clients and have the 13th one be a REALTOR® "R"? (I've been watching this video on YouTube for inspiration!)
I'm open to ideas and suggestions, Rainers! You haven't steered me wrong before...!
