If you are a frequent Tucson driver- lately it seems that no matter where you turn - you are met with traffic directors, traffic cone mazes and piles of tractors, dirt and other road construction debri and machines!
Construction is ongoing all over town and is part of the city roads 5 year improvement projectsthat began a couple months ago.
On Tucson's NE/E side two major projects include the widening of Tanque Verde from Houghton Road to Catalina Highway and on Speedway between Houghton and Camino Seco. These projects will go on for at least a year.
Here are some other highlights of major projects happening right now that will affect public travel over the next few days that will push travel down to one lane:
· Broadway from Wilmot Road to Craycroft Road. Paving starts on Sunday night October 10, 2010 and Monday night, October 11, 2010, and are scheduled to be complete by 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. But they will be back again toward the end of the month to complete more work.
· On October 12, 2010, milling and repaving of Campbell Avenue from Benson Highway to Valencia Road. Crews will be working from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and work is scheduled to be complete by Tuesday morning, October 19, 2010.
· October 19, 2010 - on 22nd Street from Alvernon Way to Swan Road crews will be adjusting water valve and manhole covers. Work is scheduled to be complete by October 23, 2010. During this work concrete will be poured and barricades will be in place for 24 hours to allow the concrete to cure.
Although it is challenging right now, it's always best to avoid any street that has construction going on if you can find one! In the meantime, budget extra time for your commute and please, follow the posted speed limit - speeding fines double in construction zones, but more importantly, there are many workers out there doing their job and we need to pay attention not to put their lives in jeopardy.
