The members of the Locust Valley Fire Department are hosting their third annual "Pasta Dinner" fundraiser to benefit the Nassau County Fire Fighters Operation Wounded Warrior (NCFF-OWW). The dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 4 to 8 PM at the Locust Valley Firehouse, Locust Valley, NY. Admission is $10 for adults with children under 12 free. Co-chair of the event, Paul Long said, "100% of proceeds go towards Operation Wounded Warrior. Anyone wishing to make a contribution should make their checks payable to Operation Wounded Warrior and mail to Locust Valley Fire Department., 228 Buckram Rd., Locust Valley, NY 11560." In addition to Paul Long, Paul Marecki and Brian Plumb of the Locust Valley Fire Department are serving as co-chairs for the event.
The family of Navy Seal, Lt. Michael Patrick Murphy from Patchogue and Gary Williams, the author of the recently released book Seal of Honor, which chronicles the life of Lt. Murphy will be their guests of honor this year. Lt. Michael Patrick Murphy earned the Medal of Honor on June 28, 2005 for his bravery during a fierce fight with the Taliban in the remote mountains of eastern Afghanistan. Lt. Murphy was the first to receive the nation's highest military honor for service in Afghanistan and also the first naval officer to earn the medal since the Vietnam War. He is also the first SEAL to be honored posthumously.
NCFF-OWW, organized in 2006, is a non-profit 501c(3) organization whose mission is to provide needed items to the injured men and women of our armed forces. These items are personally delivered by up to 100 Nassau County firefighters including Locust Valley firefigthers, in early December of each year. They visit our injured troops in Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals in Washington, DC, and the recuperating injured troops at both Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Wave if you see those fire trucks on I-95 in early December on their way down south.
