Do You Actually Read The Entire Post Before You Comment?

I read the entire post before commnenting and many times will go to their profile and also then go to their website to check it out.  

 Sometimes I might just overlook their sidebar.  Not a big deal.  If I would make such a flub and suggest an IDX tool to a flooring person, I would just like to say, Well excuuuuuuuse me.

I'll read the entire post if it's interesting and if I do read it all, I almost always make a comment.  However, if I don't read it, I don't comment.  Some folks on here just stop by long enough to write "great post" to get a few points and then move on.

I think there is really a bigger question.  How many read the post AND the comments before making their own comments.  I have see several "I can't believe the mortgage company required this" posts.  Most the time is was an actual guideline or policy that the agent simply was not aware of.  Of course, most of the agents also just on board with the same mentality of "how dare they".  This is even after some people actually in the mortgage industry had clarified that it was real guideline and not overstepping at all.  Obviously, if they read the facts, they just disregarded them.

I have thought about writing a similar post after getting a few comments that you KNOW did not read a word of the post, not even just the first paragraph. I do read the post, start to read the comments, sometimes I will make it all the way through the comments and sometimes (like now will get down so far and realize that I have to run to get to my open houses on time) Gotta love the idea of changing the blog 1/2 way through, must have been interesting to see the results after comment #22.

The idea for AR members is to learn from the post - their loss if they don't read. The point accumulators aren't fooling anyone and actually don't present themselves in the best light if a non-member reads the post and also sees the commenter's lack of substance.

Well if I was on trial for this....all I can say is I would want to plea bargain at this point. I am guilty...but with an explanation. if the post is too long (for me), I apply emergency shortening measures and act accordingly. I appear to be on track at this time. Also, reading other comments helps me nail my down too when I do short-cut. So, if the post is short, sweet and to the point or fascinating beyond words...count me in for the full read.......thank you and best

Do I always read the whole post? Nope. Do I comment on a post I don't read? Nope. I used to though. Actually, when I first started reading them, if it was too long or confusing to read, instead of just skipping it, I would read some of the comments by people who I've come to see a lot. Based on their comments, I would get a better idea of what the post was about. Like I said, I USED to do this. lol Just being honest.

Yeah, sometimes people get in a hurry and assume they know what the post is about.

I have notice this on post before too. I think it is important to read the entire post to actually know what the person is trying to convey.

I have seen posts before and wondered if those leaving comments did indeed read the entire post and also the business the writer was in.

Debbie's post took a while to read through all of the comments.

Some of it I understood and some I didn't. 

I believe there are always going to be those that engage, converse, and yes... read the post all the way through.. then there are others...

We are totally amazed at some of the comments we read here on the rain...and like you say, if you don't want to read the whole post, at lease pay attention to what the member acutally does!

Katerina - First of all, you really gave Debbie great advice.  But for me it was really obvious that she is in the Flooring Business by just looking at the blog post you're referring.  The blog was not very long and her logo "Floor Coverings International" is prominently shown on the bottom of each post.  

I try to read the entire post but, I confess, on the longer posts I sometimes get led astray, or lead myself astray as it were. And, one other confession, I don't always check to see what the poster does.

Katerina:  I usually read the entire post before I make a comment, as I did with this post of yours.  Sometimes, if I am really interested in the topic, or if it looks like the comments are "real" comments that add to the dialogue, I will read many, if not all of the comments.

In this post... I did not read ALL of the comments... but definitely read the entire post.

I know when I write a post that gets good comments... it really bothers me when someone writes a comment... and you can just TELL that all they read was the title of the post, and assumed they knew what it was all about.  I find that very irritating.

I mean... why bother commenting at all... if you're not going to be adding something relevant.

I think a lot of ARers have this happen to them.  You get the token, "Thanks for the information" comment.  That's okay.  Most of the comments are helpful, and you can easily pass over the others.
