Old Comic Book Ad for Sea Monkeys

I was at a flea market recently and bought several old comic books, as my son has really got into the super-hero stuff, and I thought it would be neat for him to see what I used to read.  Flipping through the comic brought back lots of boyhood memories from my comic-collecting days, but this ad really hit home!  How many of you begged your parents, or saved up, to buy those wonder SEA MONKEYS? :)

Roger

As a kid I dreamed about owning a sea-monkey.  Never got to get one, not really sure to this day what one really is...sounds like a good job for 'google'

When I was a kid a friend down the street actually sent away for those sea-monkeys, they came in a packets of dry "stuff" that you sprinkled into the water.  The "monkeys" tiny brine shrimp, almost micrscopic in size.  They just whipped around in the water, that was it, that was our entertainment.  I can't remember how long they lasted but I'm sure they were dead within a few days if not by the next morning.  He wouldn't listen to me, I told him to get the "x-ray glasses" so we could look through our hands... or whatever our little-boy minds came up with.

I remember those from back in the day. I never ordered them though. But this does bring back memories.

Ha!  I thought about writing to them, Mike :)

LaNita, they were everywhere and everybody wanted them

Spider-man was the BEST! (I assume this is Mike, right) :)

I did actually order these as a kid, Chris.  I remember saving up.  They didn't look anything like the pic, though :(

Deb, if memory serves, it's a blob of dust that you think moves on occassion

Let's order some, Anna!

Trent, I saw the ad with the X-ray specs in it, too and almost put that one up!

The whole comic collection I bought brought back alot of fun memories, Robert.

This came from a comic that was 30 years old.  If any of you "young'ns" are reading this and asking "what the heck!?" you ought to drop fifty cents at flea market on one of these old things and see what we 'old guys' thought of as entertainment!  ;)

Roger, thanks for the post! I think it would be fun to resurrect the Sea Monkey's from the dead! If Chi-Chi-Chi-Chia pets can survive, why can't Sea Monkey's?

My parents never let me order them; however, when I was out on my own, that's the first thing I ordered! I don't remember what happened, but I still think they are cute! I'd order them again today, just to see what happens!

Roger let's order some!  I just asked my husband and he doesn't know anything about them either and he's the king of sci-fi stuff.  I must know more........:)

Roger,

Cool! Okay, now all we need is an MCE class on how to market Sea-Monkeys with our advertising! Ha-Ha! I checked out the official website and you're right!!! Ooooh! Isn't that fascinating!

I wonder if a sea-monkey can be tattooed with our name, logo, etc., as a marketing tool! Of course, since they are not very big, we might have to resort to just getting the packaging labled. Then we could easily find a niche group to market it to, i.e., baby boomers? Roger, I could see you now on the cover of AARP Magazine promoting your houses with free Sea Monkey's for anyone closing a deal with you!
