The Chicks House

Cool Chicks Come In Different Colors!

The above is home to four lovely ladies who lay golden yolk eggs!  My son Mark and his wife Tamara live in Whiteville, NC and while spending a week in Myrtle Beach, SC we took a day to visit them and get acquainted with the ladies they'd told us about.  They also have 3 dogs and a bunny and I don't know how Tamara does it but the place is spotless.  I wish I could say the same and we just have 2 small canine kids!

They researched and purchased 4 girl chicks and Tamara built their home from plans all by herself and did a great job of it.  The baby chicks are now full grown and daily laying eggs.  Delicious brown shell and golden orange yolk eggs.  I don't know why but I prefer the golden orange yolks to the yellow.  The whites on these eggs are firmer and the shells much harder than store bought.

2 Of The LadiesTamara and Three Ladies

The fourth young lady was in the house laying an egg!  They gave us a gift of a dozen eggs which we carefully handled and managed to get back to Hendersonville, NC without breaking or cracking even one egg.  Here they are:

Home Grown Eggs

Each lady has uniquely marked eggs and of course they all have a name.  Cybel's egg was not only very large but a bountiful double yolker.  We've throughly enjoyed their gift and will miss their special gift when we return to plain old store bought eggs.

Sue - I've seen a lot of North Carolina chicken houses ... but never one as well done as this one!  Thanks for sharing!

Now that is not something we see very often here in Southern California.  Unless you go out to the rural areas.

Greetings Tim -- not only is it interesting learning about the chickens, but, the eggs are well worth it.  A very noticeable difference in texture and taste for the better than store bought.

Hi Mike -- It seems to be an uptick in chicken interest these days.  Not only had you and your wife  mentioned wanting chickens but our local newspaper had an article on raising chicks for eggs, etc.  I hope you get the opportunity.  Get the law changed!

Michelle the "Girls" are definitely living in the high rent district and love it.  Thus, lots of eggs!

Sue, reminds me when I was about 7 or 8 years old and my dad kept a few chickens around for the eggs and the occasional entree!!

Hi Nick -- Those eggs are well worth it.  I don't think any of these "ladies" will end up as an entree knowing Mark and Tamara.  I suspect when a sad demise occurs there would be a burial.  Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Joshua -- there's many places won't allow chickens.  Yes, Tamara is very proud of the house she built.  Thanks.

Very cool looking chick house!  My grandma had one in Atlanta and it was always a treat looking for eggs! :) Enjoy!

Hi Janice -- my son and wife are really enjoying the experience with these chickens.  They are especially enjoying the eggs.  As I think about these 4 "chicks" laying an egg every day -- geeze -- I have to ask them what they are doing with all these eggs!  The eggs we've eaten are great and better than store bought.

Sue,
That is a palace compared to where some chickens are housed.  A few years ago while visiting my brother in VA we had farm fresh eggs everyday.  My brother has a friend with a farm and they were delich.  The eggs we buy from the supermarket I think are industrial strength eggs.
