I recently upgraded from another brand of smartphone to an iPhone 4G. I hemmed and hawed, read all the awful reports online about horrible service, bad reception, etc. I worried about dropping the thing and being out the $200 it cost. But I pulled the trigger anyway, joined the revolution, and haven’t looked back since.
The 4G has revolutionized my business. Reception problems – haven’t had them. I’m a klutzy lefty so I bought a protective case and I’m good to go now. I’ve only dropped maybe a handful of calls in the last 30 days and way less than my previous phone.
When I was looking for a new phone I was also contemplating purchasing a small digital camera so I could take pictures of listings and other interesting real estate related items. That would have cost me an additional $200. I was also going to purchase a Flip video camera so I could video my listings and post to YouTube. Another $200 on top of the $200 digital camera on top of the $200 for a new smart phone. Plus I would have needed to buy a fanny pack to carry all this equipment in. That definitely wouldn’t have been the savviest wardrobe decision I could have made this year, but I digress…
What I love about my 4G iPhone:
1. 5 megapixel digital camera with flash built right in. No need to carry around that digital camera.
HD video camera. Download the iMovie app for $5 and create super cool videos of my listings with the ability to post directly to YouTube. No need to carry around that Flip video camera.
Syncs wirelessly with my Outlook Calendar and Contacts. Always know where I’m going and how to reach someone.
Apps – I downloaded the flashlight app for free this afternoon. It uses the built in flash. Man that sucker’s bright! Perfect for lighting up a dark crawlspace or touring REO listings in the evening.
Realtor Apps – On the fly I can look up listings on realtor.com or run estimated monthly mortgage payments. In this immediate response world we live in we have answers at our fingertips.
Social Media Interfaces – Stay updated and make posts, Tweets, Links and more with free downloads of Facebook and Hootsuite.
Weather, Maps, Stocks, YouTube, Notes – all of these cool little features come with the phone. They are great tools and useful conversation starters. “Hey, have you seen the Dow today? Maybe you should invest in real estate instead of junk bonds, eh?”
iTunes – Sometimes you just have to rock out after an especially tough negotiation or situation where you have had to artfully guide sellers, buyers, lenders, appraisers & inspectors through the process to get to closing!
The iPhone 4G is a fantastic tool to have in my real estate toolbox. If used properly it allows me to multi-task and process those daily to-do items much faster, which leaves me with more face-to-face client time. If you are looking for a new smart phone, give the iPhone 4G some serious consideration.
