Retire to Lethbridge
Many years ago it was quite customary for southern Albertans to retire to the Okanogan or to Vancouver Island. Heck, last time I was out in Nanimo I happened to run across 2 real estate people who I knew from back when they sold houses in Lethbridge. BC attracted a lot of Albertans due to the weather and scenery.
This trend has seemingly come to a complete halt in recent years and in fact has reversed. There are now many of these retirees moving to Lethbridge. This includes people who are coming back home again and also native BC citizens who are looking for a change.
The reasons they tell me that they are moving back to Lethbridge are the fact that home prices in BC are out of control high, the taxes in BC are in expense and inconvenience, and violent crime has increased in many cities due to rapid growth and increased migration of undesirable people.
Lethbridge continues to be an attractive place to live. The weather is mild by Canadian standards, home prices are very affordable, the economy is strong, we have no Provincial sales tax, our healthcare and educational systems are great, and most of the cities here still have that 'small town' feel to them.
If you are looking for an affordable place to take up residence, a place where you can garden all summer, a place where there is little crime, no pollution, and lots of families, you should consider Lethbridge.
Blooming in Maryland.
