I have gotten such great comments on some furniture I have repurposed that I decided to write a blog about repurposing. In this economy it is wise to be frugal, why throw away something that can be reused in a new way? I don't like to contribute to the landfill, it is cool to be green today and there is a market out there for green businesses.
When I see an old piece of furniture in my home, a client's home, a yard sale or auction my creative juices start to flow. I have even stopped and picked things out of the trash on garbage if I see a piece of furniture I can redo! I love thinking about what something can be, how can I make it new, better, more functional and beautiful? A little sanding, a little stain or paint, some fabric, a staple gun, glue gun, screw driver, drill and elbow grease can really make something special out of something about to be thrown out.
Some examples of things made new:
Old table top and a wood box
Becomes a large tufted ottoman
Old headboard (and actually it was found at a yard sale years ago!)
Becomes a great bench for a beach house, used the headboard for the back and spit a twin headboard in half for the sides.
Old TV armoire now out dated due to flat screen TV
Now a cool bar
Old Fashioned Chair
New Beautiful Chair
Old dark kitchen island that didn't go with new kitchen
Newly painted and new hardware makes island fit in the updated kitchen
Just a few changes made these pieces work again!
