Today's Macomb Daily has an article on the national health care reform recently passed by Congress.

See: www.macombdaily.com / article by Chad Selweski / "Health care reform means $3.3 billion in tax breaks" /
Friday, October 15, 2010 / Pg 1A & 8 A

the subtitle to this article is : "Families USA says many in Michigan will see lower premiums in 2014"

The article appears to cover  a report released on Thursday October 14, 2010 that spoke to Michigan's low-and-middle income workers. the report speaks also to the "Exchanges" to be set up by 2014.

Read the article to see for yourself how the topic is covered.

In doing research the following Report was found [ is this the report that Mr Selweski references ]:

Implementing Health Insurance Exchanges /Guide to State Activities & Choices.
see: www.familiesusa.org

  This is a 36 page report and is in pdf format for downloading.

It is a very interesting read;    It uses an interactive map [of sorts] where you click on your State.

Starting on page 5 is the section titled Exchange Governance and Oversight: --a listing of 5 / Q & A ;
...1. Will your state have a state or federally operated exchange?
...2.  Will your state join a regional exchange?
...3 Will your state create subsidiary exchanges?
...4. How will your state ensure adequate consumer input in exchange planning & operations ?
...5. Does your state have statutory or other legal authority to operate an exchange?

Another item located is: June 10 Conference Call: The Next 90 Days --Families USA.org
This is a "To Do" List [for the next 90 days]--Tools for advocates
This discusses the PPACA--Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act / Section 1001 / Rules change
July 12, 2010
...sign-up 9 /23 /'10 - 10 / 24 /'10-[end date not listed--my guesstimate]-adding 'children' up to age 26

The" Call" goes on to delineate other pertinent items dealing with the "advocates"   TO-DO items.
Further on the Home page of the web site, you can click on "The Villers Fellowship" & "the Wellness  Fellowship";
Two groups closely affiliated with Families USA
...The Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice--founder Philippe Villers, 1981 [co-founder of Families USA]

...The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice--Sen. Paul D. Wellstone 2004
    [for those who lack a voice in the national arena] working with Families USA to expand the pool of talented
    social justice advocates from underrepresented economic, racial and ethnic minority groups.

On the web site for Families USA you can read about each of these groups by busing the links provided.

Other research into information on Health Care Reform found:
A. People for the American Way--web site www.pfaw.org
    funded jointly by--Norman Lear, Barbara Jordan, Fr. Theodore Hesburgh,& Andrew Heiskell  1981
   A 2 page article --Mission of People for the American Way.

B. Public Integrity-- www.publicintegrity.org  --one article found spoke to PACs
    "Political Inaction Committees: How Political Action Committees are Spending Your Donations"{ October 5, 2010]
    An 8 page article by Josh Israel,  Aaron Mehta, * Gabriel Debenedetti--interesting read.

Here in Michigan, we are seeing ads on the TV for various persons/ items included in the November 2, 2010 Vote.
What we look for is the "Sponsored by " or " Paid for by"  declarations.
When you actually can read or hear the names, it may behoove you to research the group.
Study just who it is that is sponsoring THE one or proposal for whom you should Vote;

An informed voter is an advocate for  YOUR government: a great quote heard, but not identified by name is:
  "The Government is for THOSE who show up to Vote"

Steve & Joel...If that is in the report I have not seen it, but the 2014 date was referenced as well as "the Next 90 Days--after the June 10 conference all.  So much information and so little time. One needs to know where to find the information and some groups are not forth coming.  I must say that Families USA do [post and / or link to a lot of things. Personally, did not realize that The Wellstone Foundation was as active as they are.
some of the links were Michigan specific on FUSA-MI. so am certain that each state will have their own local links as well.
thanks for your comment. I will read that entire report more carefully, this time looking for any reference that involves Home sales.
have a great weekend.

Barb and Sal...interesting links, Thanks.  I've heard about the 2% home sale tax too.  According to my research it's not technically a tax on homes sales, I've heard that the tax is for the very wealthy and it's on their home sale profits.  I received emails about this a while ago and checked it out on Snopes...but I can't seem to find the link now!

Laura...glad that you found something; Sal said that he had heard of this,but I could not find any reference, nor does the group--families USA mention that.
Did more digging into the group and tried to find who or when they became the spokespeople for PPACA--did find more information on their advocates tools, but nowhere did any info. indicate that they are officially appointed.  So, they must be following their co-founders' mission statements.
*If I can successfully post this information here in the Rain--either AT&T or the Rain network is having situations, or I just try to get on-line at a very busy time.

Thanks for your comment.  Have a good week.
