When holding an open house in a vacant listing I always like to have a few things on hand. It seems to me that vacant homes accumulate more dust and cob webs due to the lack of movement in the home. For tools and cleaning supplies I like to keep it simple so I'm not toting a big kit every time I go out.
Here is a simple kit I take to my vacants when I hold them open them:
Tools.
1) An adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers. - Great for tightening everything from leaky fittings to crooked signs.
2) Convertable screw driver. - I only want to carry 1 so a convertible lets me have both a Philips and slotted all in one tool.
3) Common sense - If I can't fix it with one of these three tools I probably shouldn't be touching it, keeping that in mind keeps me out of trouble.
Cleaning Supplies
4) A long handled duster - Helps to reach those hard to reach places like ceiling fans and light fixtures and it doubles as a broom, at least mine does.
5) A roll of heavy duty paper towels - Great for all types of clean up. I like the roll of blue shop towels from the auto parts store the best.
6) Spray duster - great for cleaning but also works as an air freshener in a pinch.
7) Windex - It's a cleaner, it's a bug spray, what more could you want.
Misc.
8) A roll of TP - it's just a good thing to have. :-)
It's not a lot but that's the point, these few things cover a lot of ground with out taking up a lot of room, that's my kind of kit.
