The colonal and the black bear.
The Ole Miss Rebels mascot is History, and are now The Rebel Black Bear..
The University of Mississippi college football team know as Ole Miss Rebels have a new mascot, now the Rebel Black Bears.
The old grey headed goateed Southern gentleman known as "Colonel Reb", has not been seen on the sidelines for many years. The chant heard at all the games "the south will rise again" and the waiving of the Confederate flag stopped in 1997, at all the Ole Missgames, when the band was told not to play the fight song know as " from Dixie with love."
The change was not welcomed by everyone. Thousands of signatures on petitions, and campus protest fought to keep the Colonel Reb as the Ole Miss Rebels mascot.
Right or wrong, Change is certainly difficult and the reason for the change is to distant the schools symbol of the old south. The "Rebel Black Bear" will take some getting use to, but Ole Miss will always be the Ole Miss Rebels.
Football is not about the mascot anyway IS IT?
