The Festival took place Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th, 2010 on four streets of Bethesda Row,

located in Bethesda, MD (Woodmont Ave, Bethesda Ave, Elm St & Bethesda Lane). These areas are closed to traffic throughout the weekeend, with set-up for the festival begining in the early-morning of Saturday, October 16th.

The fifteen media categories that are juried for the Bethesda Row Arts Festival are: ceramics, drawing & pastels, fiber, glass, graphics & printmaking, jewelry, metalwork, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D, oil/acrylic painting, photography & digital art, sculpture, watercolor, and wood, with an ‘other’ option should the artists’ work not fit into one of these categories.

The approximately 45,000 attendees come from the Washington DC-metro area and the suburb of Bethesda, one of the nation’s most affluent regions.

FEATURED FUN FACTS ABOUT EDGEMOO

Before 1920, the visionary developer, Walter E. Tuckerman, purchased a large farm, subdivided it and reserved the central block for a sports center for the residents of the new community called Edgemoor. By 1920 Mr. Tuckerman had built two tennis courts in an open field and sold the whole block to the residents while holding the mortgage for most of the purchase money.  The idea of getting an old street car for a clubhouse was abandoned, but, for that first year, residents built a small grandstand and a sturdy framework over which was stretched a shade awning. The Club initiation fee was $25 and annual dues were $15.
