When I went to the laundry room to start a load of clothes in the washer today, I remembered there was a contest going on about What's Under the Sink, proof that I can blog about anything.
So, I looked under the sink in the laundry room. You guessed it, I found Tide, bleach, woolite, and some other cleaning supplies. Nothing exciting, but glad to see I had Tide to do my laundry, and woolite to wash my sweaters. While separating the clothes, I started thinking of what we as real estate agents wear to work each day, and the type of fabric worn in our daily activities.
We want to dress professional, right! When I lived in Northern Virginia, I received my real estate license in 1988 and worked for several different brokers in Alexandria, Falls Church, Springfield and Fairfax. During that time, all the agents dressed more formal ... that is, women in their business suits and high heels; men in their suits and ties. I can remember wearing silk dresses, blouses, etc.
Fast forward to 2010, I now live in Lewisburg WV. The dress code is more casual depending on the area where the property is located. These areas may be farmland, mountain homes, cabins down near the river, lake, and valleys, large and small houses, and some estates, etc., so we dress accordingly for a showing.
Depending on the property I am showing, depends on my dress attire for the day. When a buyer wants to see a cabin near the river ..... no suit or high heels, I will have on boots, jeans, sweater or blouse. If a buyer wants to see a house in town, well I may not have high heels on, but will be eloquently casual (meaning cotton rather than silk), no tee shirts or min skirts......Get my drift......
So, depending on where the property is
I may be dressed very casual or just eqloquently casual. I usually do not wear high heels too often, except for church or special occasions.
Knowing what to wear can turn a first impression into a closed client. What would your client think if you wore high heels to show land or a cabin in the woods or near a river....jeans and boots would be the right attire here.
Choose your clothing apparel appropriately when showing properties.... and choose the right detergent when cleaning your clothes. Whatever type of clothes we wear they have to be washed and usually we will find what we need to do this task under the sink in the laundry room.
