I ran in my very first marathon yesterday!
Not exactly the whole marathon...but I did run in it.
The Baystate Marathon was held yesterday in Lowell, Massachusetts...with over 1500 runners.
My daughter, Ashley, was one of the runners. It was her first full marathon and she hasn't been running all that long.
Saying we were very proud of her doesn't begin to express our feelings as we stood on the side of the road at mile 22 and screamed our heads off as she passed by.
After we saw her, it was a nerve wracking ride to the finish line, to see her finish. Traffic was so bad that Ashley caught up to us and ran right past us.
I was so afraid she would beat us to the finish line.
Luckily, we got to the finish area just a minute or two before her. As we were frantically trying to figure out how to get to the actual finish line, she came around the corner...and her dad was able to run along side her with the video camera...I ran behind her pushing Zack in his stroller.
I ran for probably 2 minutes...the closest I will ever get to actually running in a marathon. Two minutes.......two minutes longer than I EVER want to run again!
Ashley ran for just over 4 1/2 hours!
All you marathon runners out there who run 26 miles have my respect...I bow to you in amazement. I don't understand it and I find it very hard to believe that people do it willingly.
Ashley, I love you and I couldn't be any prouder!
