Here are some tips that not only apply to Pullman Washington but our neighboring Moscow Idaho, an area I also service.  In fact, due to the Moscow Mountains, Moscow sometimes gets more snow that we do here in Pullman!

Winter is around the corner in Pullman and it is time to get your home ready for winter! The fall days are beautiful right now, but before we know it Old Man Winter will be blowing into our lovely Washington State!  It is time to take steps to winterize your home.

Over the next few days, I will be presenting a tip of the day to remind you of steps you need to get your home ready for winter.  Some of these tips are intended for all those first time home buyers who are now proud homeowners preparing for their first winter in their new home.  Some of these tips are for sellers marketing their home for sale during winter months. Regardless of which category you fit in, I am sure these will serve as reminders of chores that need tending to....

Tip 1:   Remember....Water Freezes!  So....it is time to winterize those outside water sources.

Sprinkler Systems ~ If you haven't already, schedule your lawn service professional to blow out that sprinkler system!  And for you sellers, do keep a copy of that paid receipt.  Your new buyer will most likely inquire if your sprinkler system was winterized!

Hoses ~ Disconnect all hoses from outside faucets.  This is a very important step you don't want to forget.  Water expands as it freezes.  If you leave those hoses attached that water will freeze and expand into your faucets and pipes.  And that could result in very serious problems such as broken pipes.  So disconnect those hoses....and coil them up and store them for those lovely spring days ahead.  And don't forget to gather up all those sprinklers and put them neatly in the shed for next year too!

Faucets ~ Invest a few dollars in a faucet cover.  They are easily obtained at your local hardware store and provide that extra bit of protection from winters plunging temperatures.  You might not want to put them on just yet, depending on the outside temperatures.  But if you buy them now, you will have them once the temps start dropping in Pullman!
