Facebook Apps Sharing Your Personal Data...I Hate To Say I Told You So

By
Education & Training with MarQeteer

I've been harping on this one with my clients for well over a year now (albeit without any solid proof) and now it has been confirmed. Many of the most popular Facebook games and apps are sharing your personal data with marketers and internet-tracking services.

I've encouraged my clients to avoid these games simply because when you sign on to them, there's a message that comes up letting you know that you're allowing "the application" access to your data, friends list, etc. Umm...please explain why this information is necessary to play a game?

Social media isn't really that complicated...unless you make it complicated. These distractions-with-a-purpose mostly serve to complicate things. Approach social media forums and apps with caution. Protect yourself.

Below is a short video commentary, along with the article from CNN.com, that I hope will help you navigate these waters. I'm not saying avoid them all...just think before you act:)

Mark, thanks for your post.  I think there is tremendous truth to what you're saying.  What business do facebook games have with your personal information UNLESS the business of accessing this personal information benefits them somehow.  If you follow the money of the ownership of these so-called affiliate facebook games, I'm sure the answers would be daunting and shocking.  Have a great week and stay in touch.  Jark.

Mark, I don't have the time or inclination to play games on Facebook.  Not only can these marketers track your personal information - there is no control over where your information goes after that!
