Recycling in our community is right under our nose!
I must have been living in a bubble but recently I've noticed that there are all kinds of great opportunities to get rid of your old electronics, batteries etc. that I never knew existed. Believe me I'm not a 'tree hugger' by any stretch of the imagination but I do feel that throwing out your old laptop (which I recently had to do) shouldn't be a major chore. I also believe that saving a million pounds of batteries from the land fills just might be an achievable goal.
So here's what I've found so far:
Lowes - their goal is to recycle batteries, wooden pallets, shrink wrap, etc. in their local stores. So check out the site to see what wonderful work they are doing. I am sure you can find a store near you.
Call2Recycle - this has a zip code recycling locator if you are having trouble finding a place for items.
Staples - I took my old crashed laptop to Staples, handed them my company Staples reward card, they hemmed and hawd awhile, looked confused, and charged me nothing for disposal. I was expecting a $30 charge. So zero is better. Give it a try.
Recycle your old Refrigerator - I've done this twice now and it's as easy as placing a phone call, scheduling a time & some nice guys pull up with a truck & take it away. Buhh-bye and they send you a check by mail.
Recycle CFL Bulbs and Batteries at the Village Hall in Schaumburg.
Recycle in the Roselle Area at the Bloomingdale Township Office - 1st Saturday of every month only.
