The tide is turning----and I am on my way!

By
Home Inspector with Charles Buell Inspections Inc.

Getting to work can be difficult at times.  Traffic can be a bear.  The weather can be a problem.

I spent a lot of winters in the Syracuse and Oswego, New York areas so I know a lot about driving in the winter.  Almost always, the worst part about driving in the winter is dealing with other drivers on the road that have no clue about driving in the winter.  It is actually considered a winter sport by some----something that makes winter and going to work during the winter somehow worth it.  But that is whole other story for another time.

The other day I was driving to work----to an inspection----when I came upon a road sign I had never seen before.  It gives us another difficulty to add to the list.

Tide over the road

Maybe if I was a fisherman I might keep track of the Tide Tables----but driving to a home inspection?

water over the road at High Tide

Hmm, much cheaper to use a sign and move the road I guess

Good morning Charles...As a Pennsylvania resident, I can identify with your second paragraph...But, on another note, I've seen signs like this in Cape Hatteras and experienced it several times myself...It's an odd feeling when you encounter it...Enjoy the day.

Maybe you need to talk to Paul about getting a kayak.

Why worry. The tide will go out, twice a day. Slow down and enjoy yourself.

Charlie,

We have enough areas that have, historically, flooded around here that I see that one quite a bit. One night I was driving out by Marietta, near the river, and came across said sign right after my tires entered about a foot of water. I turned around, no clue how bad it might have gotten.

Hey Charlie! So what did you do? Heed or ignore the sign? ( Or was there not much water over the roadway?)

That's different. I have never seen a sign warning me about water over the road, I have found before the water, but not the sign.

Oh goodness, you're a braver man than I.  I would probably reschedule and find out the tide times just to be on the safe side.  LOL

Why can't people just enjoy driving without all these hidden danger signs? They take all the fun out of just tooling along aimlessly.

Personally, I am betting you floored it, and hung your head out the window to catch some of the spray!

Which whoop did you use?

Debbie, yup---close to 20 years

Valerie, I am sure they will come out in time

Fred, that would come in handy for house boats too

Jay, now that would not be comfortable

Jason, or a fishing boat on the trailer

Janice---or build a bridge

Ernie, yes for sure-----lots of low roads on the cape

Paul, is that a sign?:)

Cynthia, I am sure he has one I could borrow----but will it hold a 32 ft ladder?

Glenn, for sure----will do----always a hoot to road trip to Whidbey

Steve, there is something just plain wrong about seeing the roadway covered in water

Elizabeth----in some areas the tide can be very strong

Chris, I will take the water :)

Susan---in Texas?

Debi, I was there at the right time of day----no high water in sight

Jim, I have as well----perhaps the sign was missing

Joe, If there had been water on the road I would have gone around another way

Lizette, we are fast becoming a society of warnings

Jay, I think you have the right image----it is just that the water wasn't there to do it
