If we had a dollar for: A Whole Lot of Dollars

  • Every home we've been in that had a different agent's calendar on the refrigerator than was on the sign in the yard!
  • Every time we've been thrilled for the opportunity to help someone buy or sell a home!  Seriously...it's a fantastic feeling....and we actually get more than a dollar for the work :)


  • Every time that we've looked at an agent's promotional picture and wondered, "Does she need a chiropractor??"  :)
  • Every time we've just stopped to admire a sunrise, a sunset or a lightning storm and just marveled at the sheer beauty of God's work!


  • Every grocery cart we've used with a agent's ad defaced?  Mustaches and scratches galore!
  • Every time our direct mail campaign has WORKED and every time a past client sends a family member or friend to us!


  • Every unsolicited telephone call promising to make us #1 on Google!
  • Every time we've posted a blog and found it page 1 on Google...without paying some SEO company!


  • Every email from some family member of some deceased African government minister or chief with MILLIONS of dollars just for me!  (And then saw the same email go to my spouse!)
  • Every email from a past client telling us how happy they are in their new home, about the birth of their newest baby, etc.!


  • Every email we've gotten promoting an Open House or New Listing.  Sorry, but our buyers are all on automated MLS searches...if it fits, they'll already be getting it, and we don't need a 10 MB email because you don't downsize your pictures first!
  • Every time we've walked into a home with buyers and they've known this home is THE ONE!!!  (And it's one we found for them!)


  • Every broken promise we've heard from a politician, doesn't matter which party!
  • Every time someone has delivered on their promises and MORE!  MOST people do care and demonstrate it every day!


  • Every time we've changed the TV or radio station because the commentator was speaking garbage just to get ratings up!
  • Every time we hear a story on the TV or radio about some extraordinary thing someone has done for others!


  • Every time we've wondered if the driver in front of us actually PASSED a driver's exam??
  • Every time another driver is courteous and waves us to make that turn or merge over!


  • Every time I've been ready to pull my hair out because my laptop takes 10 minutes to boot up!
  • Every time I'm able to find information quickly and easily BECAUSE of that laptop!


  • Every blog idea we've had but forgotten because we were driving or otherwise occupied and couldn't get it to stick long enough to get it written down!
  • Every blog idea we've remembered and gotten posted ($201 dollars and counting!).

So we may not have those dollars and be on the Forbes 500 list, but we'll count our many blessings and be happy!

Funny you should mention this.  I just showed a house today where the calendar on the fridge was different than the listing agnet.  Funny, I always look to see if there's an agent calender!

The calendar is a good one. I have one on my fridge from my insurance agent. Yesterday I changed the month from June to October... I don't think calendars will be what I'll be sending anyone this year.

Denise, I'm purely electronic on the calendars now... Outlook, synched to the Blackberry...not much reason to keep a paper version any longer!

the last time I was at a listing presentation, I saw the refrigerator had the calendar and magnets of another agent in my office.  I asked the seller if she knew that agent.  She said "yes, she sold me this house."   I asked "is there any reason why you didn't call her?"  thinking maybe somewhere along the line that she might have offended her, and she responded "No... I just didn't think of calling her, I'm not even sure if she's still in the business... I haven't seen any of her signs out there lately, but she's been sending me these magnets and calendars for years".

The calendar and magnets were current.

She continued "Do you think I should call her, do you think she'll be upset?"... I answered that "I would be upset, if I were her... did you WANT to use her?"   The seller thought for a moment, and said "No... I like you better... I'll stick with you".

Awwwkkkwarrrdd!  (I removed the magnets, and let the other agent know the listing was coming before it hit the MLS).

Alan, Pretty rare that an agent would give a seller the opportunity to go to another agent!  The fact that you offered probably told her tons about the kind of person you are!  Glad you got to keep the listing!
