Game time : tonight @ 7:30 pm EST - Game @ San Fran
Well, the Philadelphia Phillies could find themselves in a slight hole, being down 2 games to 1. The Phillies didn't win 97 games for nothing, tops in the Major League. And for the fact that they had many players hurt throughout half the season. But let's put excuses behind us. The Phillies will need to hit tonight. They need some of their power hitters to hit some home runs also. Most of all, to play small ball.
~ Today's pitching match up with some regular season stats ~
Pitching -
Joe Blanton hasn't pitched in the play offs as of yet, but he had a very good run down the stretch. But then again, so did Bumgarner. Blanton has pitched in 5 play off games in his career, going 2-0 with a 3.89 era in 34.2 innings. On the other hand, Bumgarner has pitched in only 1 play off game and is 1-0 with a 3.00 era in 6 innings. The Phillies will need at least 6 quality innings tonight and attack Bumgarner to have a good chance at winning this game.
Conclusion : Not a must win, but darn close to it.... and yes, that was the first time that the Philadelphia Phillies were shut out in a play off game dating back to game 5 in 1983.
In any case, the Phillies bats will need to come alive tonight and I think they are overdue. They are also hitting against a pitcher that is only 21 years of age and has only pitched in one play off game ever.
Overall, I just need to go with the experience in this one, and hope the Phillies play loose, yet smart.
Jeff's Prediction : Phillies 6 San Francisco 3
Phillies win the NLCS 4 games to 2 games
GO PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
