Boo! I scared you, didn't I? I have said many times in my blog that I was somewhat of an odd child. With that said, I was absolutely obsessed with "A Nightmare on Elm Street". I can recall not being allowed to see it a few years after it came but watching it anyways with my friend's teenage sister at a sleep over. There was just something so ghoulishly frightening, yet witty about Freddy Krueger. As the franchiseprogressed, the horror gave way to camp but few horror films will ever compare to Wes Craven's original "Nightmare" masterpiece.
I was out on Caravan (Broker's Open House) yesterday previewing property during yet another day of very odd LA weather (cool and rainy) when I happened to stumble upon Nancy's house on "Elm Street" also known as Genesee. I remembered someone telling me it was on Genesee, but it hadn't even crossed my mind all these years when I looked out the window to see the iconic green roof and red front door right in front of me. It was a trip to see it in person and I just so happened to take a photo with my camera phone. Compare between the real thing and the movie below. I've also included a shot of an area where Freddy's claws certainly don't belong as well as the house during someone's nightmare. The owner's have done a great job at preserving it and looking on google earth, it's pretty big with pool.
If you are a horror film fanatic as I am, you'll get a kick out of this. If you are local and want to give a timid friend or partner a little scare, drive them by at night - 1428 North Genesee. My friend also posted the shot on Facebook and asked who this house belonged too. I thought that was pretty cool!
PS - We have 11 days and counting until Halloween. What slutty (postal worker, bail bonds(wo)man, police officer, etc) are you planning on being this year? I myself am thinking something involving briefs, nerd classes, and a tie...that's about it...literally!
