How little it takes to Pay it Forward
In This Post
One doesn't have to do much or know much to help out another.
Yesterday an associate called me with a computer problem. She had been sent a document (contract extension) that she could open but could not read. And also, about that same time she received a call from someone with a Pennsylvania area code calling himself Dave Peterson, but sounding like Gandhi's cousin, who told her that Microsoft had determined she had a virus on her computer and would she please log on the given web address and allow him to access her system.
She wanted to know
- Did she have a virus
- What to do about the call
- Why wouldn't MSWord open the document
I asked her to email the document to me and I would call her back. Meanwhile she should Google the phone number and see what she found out there.
Here is a pdf document opened in MSWord and in Acrobat Reader.
Somehow she had switched her preferences to open pdf's in MSWord. I was happy to have helped, and the virus call, was of course, bogus. Just a coincidence.
