VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT 4
If Amendment 4 is approved on November 2, it will require all future revisions to city and county growth plans to pass a public vote of at least 60 percent. It is a hugely flawed idea that would stymie growth at a time when Florida is trying to rebound from the recession, and voters should cast their ballots "no."
The Washington Economics Group released a study that projects that Amendment 4 will reduce Florida's economic output by $34 billion annually. This would cause the state's economy to permanently collapse. Taxpayers take note - local governments would be required to hold expensive referenda on thousands of amendments yearly, which in the last four years alone would have meant over 10,000 costly elections statewide. The Washington Economic Group also estimates that the bill will likely cost Florida 267,247 jobs, adding to the already stubborn, high unemployment rate of about 12 percent. Given Florida's precarious economic climate, the "Vote on Everything" amendment is the last thing Florida needs.
