Academy District 20 Schools Compete in the High School Marching Band Quarter and Semi Finals, 22-23 October 2010
This is a big weekend for Academy School District 20 high school marching bands. 4A and 5A semi finals occur tomorrow, Friday, at the US Air Force Academy football stadium. Pine Creek High School is scheduled to perform at 10:45. If they score well, they will continue to the semi finals on Saturday.
The other three D-20 high schools have performed well enough to proceed directly to the semi finals on Saturday, 23 October. Air Academy High School is scheduled to perform at 11:00, Liberty High School is scheduled to perform at 11:15, and Rampart High School is scheduled to perform at 3:00. The result of Saturday will be the best bands in the area.
We are very lucky that the four major high schools in Academy School District 20 have great band programs for our high school students. With a son playing the base drum for Pine Creek High School, I'm very proud to be associated with the band program. I've attended two of the more recent competitions and it pleased me to watch the students for each of the D-20 schools cheer on the other D-20 bands as they started their performance even though they were competing against each other, something you wouldn't see at a sporting event. This is clearly a sign that the directors of each of the bands are instilling the proper values for our young musicians.

On Monday, the Academy School District 20 Showcase will occur. This is when all four D-20 marching bands perform for the general public. Definitely something to see! I will edit this post with the details as soon as they are available.
UPDATE: Pine Creek performed on Friday after a three hour lightening delay. They placed 10th which was not high enough for semi-finals on Saturday.
Air Academy won first place for 4A.
Liberty placed fourth for 4A.
Rampart placed second for 5A.
