S.C. unemployment rate falls to 11%

Lexington County reported the state’s lowest unemployment rate of 7.9%, down from 8.6% in August, while Marion County reported the highest rate in September of 18.6%, down from 19.8% in August.

Parks planner charged with extortion

City of Columbia Parks and Recreation planner Damon McDuffie has been charged in a two-count indictment of allegedly using his position to solicit and receive illegal payments from contractors.

SCBT Financial Corp. Q3 earnings drop

SCBT Financial Corporation reported net income decreased $384,000 for the third quarter 2010 to $1.8 million, or 14 cents per share, from $2.2 million, or 17 cents per share for the third quarter of 2009.

U.S. Attorney: engineer forged DHEC seal

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said that a North Carolina man hired to manage the extension of the runway at Oconee Regional Airport transferred an unauthorized seal of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control onto a set of construction site plans.

Former Lee County official faces embezzlement charge

John Muldrow of Bishopville, the former director of Lee County Public Works, was accused of embezzling county funds, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles reported.



SCMEP grant to improve supply chains’ competitiveness

The S.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership will receive a $602,000 grant from the National Institute of Science and Technology. The grant will aid the improvement of U.S. manufacturing supply chains.
