What MERS Did To Real Estate . . . Wall $treet SPEED TRADERS Will Do to The $tock Market

Puts the real estate market crash and the recent foreclosure documentation scandal in terms we can all relate to.  The real farce though, is that "they" really just want us all to believe their intentions were good but that their logic just failed.  The truth is (and I am not generally a conspiracy theorist) that many participants in the process that precipitated the mortgage/ real estate market crash knew that they were building a house of cards and kept the illusion going as long as they could in order to extract as much personal gain as possible.

All of the blame for the real estate crash cannot be conveniently assigned to Wall Street, however.  Far too many homeowners took colossal risks by buying too much home with no real income.  The house of cards was built on many layers across all segments of our society.

On 10.10.10 I watched a 60Minutes segment about the SPEED TRADERS on Wall $treet.  The only thing is, these SPEED TRADERS aren't even on Wall $treet.  And, they aren't even flesh and blood stock traders.  They are . . . computers.

For those of you who can wrap your heads around what MERS, ET AL did to the real estate market by "securitizing," then selling MBS -- then you'll be the same folks that might get a real kick out of SPEED TRADERS.

But first, I want you to watch this blast from the past.  Aired 10.8.08.

At MINUTE MARKER 2:30 we hear Steve Kroft's voice:  "These complex financial instruments were actually designed by mathematicians and physicists who used algorithms and computer models to reconstitute the unreliable loans in ways that were supposed to eliminate most of the risk"

To put the above sentence into laymens' terms:  GEEKS were "programming" the housing market!!

OH GEEZ . . .

Two years later, 60Minutes aired this 10.10.10:

Steve Kroft says: "These supercomputers, which actually decide which stocks to buy and sell, are operating on highly secretive instructions programmed into them by math wizards . . . "

HA HA HA  Math WIZARDS.  The Almighty WIZARDS OF . . . OZ?!?

What Steve really means is:  GEEKS are now "programming" the stock market!!

These WIZARDS are, apparently, manipulating in "REALMS" they ought not be.  The Stock Market . . .

With the market soaring -- SOARING -- close to 12,000 . . . it's all smoke and mirrors folks.  The PUMP and DUMP of the $tock Market.  READ THE LINK!

And I'd like to take this moment to offer my sincerest thanks (in advance) to the folks that brought us:  The Market Crash of 2001 2010.   Thank you . . . thank you SO MUCH YOU MATH WIZARDS, YOU!

Scary when you think about how these same people are still making a fortune while so many others are suffering.

I will always blame those in the SUPERIOR position for this mess.  The banksters, Wall $treet, MBA, etc.  The home owner / borrower is in the SUBORDINATE/INFERIOR position.   If someone wants a loan, they have to jump through the hoops, and there are no negotiations.  Period.   If a borrower wanted to purchase,  they "applied" for a loan.  Their knowledge of the process is inferior.  The "risk" was never, EVER brought to light.  "Oh, take out the ARM, it'll readjust in 3 years, but you'll be able to refinance . . . maybe even pull some cash out." Borrowers were qualified for a loan.  They went to a loan officer for that.  They had their loans reviewed and underwritten.  Those in the SUPERIOR position made those decisions  . . . they simply could have told the borrower "NO" -- but then it wouldn't have fed the beast as we now can look back on this 20/20.  I never will blame the borrower / home owner because they were invididuals who didn't understand, were turning to (and listening to) their loan officers, etc.  And what I know now -- OMIGOSH -- home owners were used AND abused by all of this.  I don't blame the rape victim either . . . even if she wore a low cut skimpy outfit.  She DID NOT bring it on herself.   That thinking is FLAWED and BLAMES THE VICTIM.   NO ONE should force themselves on to another who is weaker.  Hope you understand my analogy.  And thanks for the re-blog :-)

Carla - I agree with you that the borrower/homeowner is/was in the position that provided the least access to knowledge in the entire structure and it seems clear to me that the motives of the other "players" in the game were definately not pure.

We do have to be careful, though, with how far we intend to go in protecting ourselves from ourselves.

Great re-blog, everyone has a part in this mess, it is just so annoying when certain parties deny any wrong doing or responsibility
