The Venice Canals in California are getting ready for Halloween 2010!

The Venice Canals in California are getting ready for Halloween 2010. As some of you know, I have written a few blogs about this national treasure over the past few years. Many tourists visit California and go to Venice Beach and are totally oblivious to the Canals that are nearby.

Halloween Venice Canals

The ones, who are familiar with this wonderful location, look forward to visiting this great destination during the holidays. For those of you who are not familiar with the history I am enclosing an older blog about it.

http://activerain.com/blogsview/1843282/the-vision-of-abbot-kinney-the-american-venice-canals-in-venice-ca/

Now my recommendation is plan on about an hour or two to stroll and gaze at the decorated homes in the canals. It is truly a great free event. Then after the fun of looking at the decorated homes go and visit one of the many Restaurants nearby. I have written a long time ago about two great ones nearby.

If you are in the mood for something different, then there is Islands a chain restaurant with many different burgers and endless fries. Check out this menu:    http://www.islandsrestaurants.com/menu/

Address: 404 Washington Blvd.
City: Marina del Rey
State: California
ZIP: 90292

Last year the Mercedes Grill had a Halloween Party which started around 7:30pm as soon as it got dark another great place to go to after your stroll in the Canals.

That looks like a fun event, a little more my style than the terrifying Halloween Experience closer to me.

The first time I visited California back in 1973, I went to see the canals before I went to the beach. I grew up on the beaches in Texas, so I was more interested in the canals.

Donne, I totally understand why you have not been here in so long, distance of an hour is just too far for us:)) I sold a client many years ago a home in Westlake Village, we were friends when he lived in Los Angeles once I sold him that house we knew the friendship would fade....too much effort to drive and too risky at night after a few glasses of wine

Karen it is a lot of fun and they keep the decorations up for a week or so after the event:)))

Debra, the greater Los Angeles has so much to offer you almost need to devide yourself into 10 and have 20 times more time:)))

Jim, I love the French Fries:)))

Hey, Endre – I first had a fascination with Los Angeles in 1968 when my wise old grandmother, one of her friends, and I drove from Kingsville, Texas, to Huntington Beach, where my oldest uncle and his family lived. Of course, I didn’t do any driving since I was only 13, but I had a great time at the beaches, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Disneyland.

I got there again in the summer of 1973 when two friends and I spent the summer after high school graduation touring everything west of the Mississippi River.

After that, it was 1978 when I took my wise old grandmother and my two young nieces to Los Angeles, again to visit my oldest uncle and his family. This was a three-week visit, and we did everything there was to do – beaches, amusement parks, Hollywood, etc.

When I moved to San Diego in 1993, my uncle and his family were still in the L.A. area, although up in Chatsworth, but I visited them often until 2003 when they moved back to Texas to retire (no state income tax). I'd take advantage of those visits to do other things in L.A., too.
