HOORAY FOR BOOKS!

Saturday, October 30  10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

pumpkins with balloonsCome join the fun and support a good cause at HOORAY FOR BOOKS! Halloween Spooktacular & Book Drive.  They'll have plenty of Halloween festivities, games and snacks for kids (of all ages!). And, being a bookseller, there will be a Storytime (of course!) from 11 a.m. - noon.

Best of all, if you tell the cashier "I support the Junior League," HOORAY FOR BOOKS! will donate an amount equal to 20% of your purchase to buy books for children in need in our community. What can be better than having a little fun and doing a good deed - all at the same time?

cartoon ghostOh, and if you have a teen who loves to read? HOORAY FOR BOOKS! invites middle school students to the first meeting of an exciting club for kids ages 12-14 who would like to read books before they are published.

How cool is that?

If you want more info on this new club, call 703-548-4092.  The next meeting is November 8, from 7 - 8 pm at HOORAY FOR BOOKS!

For older teens ages 14-18, HOORAY FOR BOOKS! has a monthly book club.  Call for more details!

HOORAY FOR BOOKS! is located in OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA, at 1555 King Street. How can you not love a shop who produces videos like this one?

I loved to read as a child.  Sounds like Halloween is a great reason to get a book drive going.  A book is a treat that gives year round.

Chris Ann:  I wish I had thought of that line "a book is a treat..."  - perfect!  I loved to read as a child - and still do, although this business makes it a little tough some times to read as regularly as I was once used to doing!

What a great idea, to combine books and Halloween festivities.  Anything to get the kids interested in reading.

What a great event. Since I also work at Borders Books & Music, I’m always happy to see books involved in anything. I fear the world is losing its attention span what with the Facebook and Twitter onslaught.

Jim:  When I was in college, I worked part time at B. Dalton Bookseller;  to this day, it was one of my favorite jobs...especially when the boxes of new books came in.  I totally agree with you about attention span.
