Scan Me, Baby!

Quick question, have you ever seen one of these barcodes?

Scan me into your Smart Phone <= Scan Me
with your Iphone, Android or other smart phone

If you've got a Iphone, Android or other smart phone, you most likely have an "app" that can scan barcodes. This barcode is a specialized barcode, as it is made to scan information directly into the contact manager of most smart phones.

Encoded in the above barcode is the following information:

Name:
Company:
Phone #:
Email:
Address:
Address 2:
Website:
Memo:
  Jeffery Newton
TopAgentVault.com

When you scan the barcode, your information is automatically imported into the phone and the user can "add contact, show map, call you, send email". (I have an Android phone) One click, and your information is in their phone! This makes it super easy to get your complete contact information into the hands of a smart phone user.

You might be saying, "So what's this got to do with me?" I always try to make it as EASY as possible to get my information into the hands of my clients or future clients. The barcodes are fairly new, and could be seen as something "fun" to try. If I place my barcode on a flyer and/or a business card, 9 times out of ten, it will get scanned, and it will be shown to friends. Imagine a few friends or friends of clients grabbing your card and scanning in YOUR contact information!

I found a person on Fiverr.com that will generate a QR code barcode for $5 in an .eps (Adobe Illustrator vector file) that can be used for printing on sign riders, flyers, business cards or whatever. The .eps file is a high resolution file that can be enlarged and/or printed without pixelization, and is required by most print shops.

The next set of business cards you have printed, ditch that calendar on the back and put your "Code" there instead!

What a great suggestion regarding the business cards.  This is coming and it's coming fast.  Who knew that we would be standing in line to be "bar-coded".

One question for you, people need to have the contact sharing tool already installed for it to work?  Right?

Well done blog. Thanks for sharing. I like the idea of putting the bar code on the back of business cards.

Jeffery, it's this type of usage which will provide merit to the QR.  Time will tell what capabilities can be derived from it.  Like you said, kind of toy like or more of a novelty now but it will be huge I believe!

Thanks for the feedback -- Yes, things are moving fast!

@Roy -- I just ordered my business cards -- and yes, they have a barcode on the back with the saying, "Got a Smart Phone? Scan Me!"

@ Rene -- Well, I think that we all would settle for more referrals!

@Don -- Technology is really changing the face of the business.  Remember the big 'ole MLS book?

@Kevin -- Kind of a novelty, yes, but very usable.
