Are You Happy?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

I remember waking early in the morning when I was little. It is freezing cold in the apartment, and it was impossible to open the tired eyes…impossible to get out of the warm bed into the cold morning air… put on that cold clothes, wash with ice cold water, and then walk to school on an ice covered walkways…

I lived far from school and it took me half an hour to walk there (we did not know bussing)…

I was trying to sleep while walking, but it was more like a slow awakening…

HappinessI remember counting months and days until the break, or summer vacation. I wanted to go to sleep and wake up when the cold was gone, the snow melted, and the grass turned green…

And when I grew up, I was dreaming about waking up at time of vacation… Or enjoying Saturday and hating the end of Sunday with torturous Monday coming in the morning…

Now I understand that these were terrible dreams. How could I want to eliminate days and months of my life?

I think happiness is when you live each day of your life and you are not rushing it. My today was a great day, as will be my tomorrow, and, hopefully, the day after tomorrow.

When I go to bed, I am looking to my next day, and not to the next vacation, or next spring, or summer. Even though we work a lot, and we come home exhausted. I love Mondays, and I love Fridays… and any other day…

Is it because every day here is like in Paradise? Or it comes with age?

I don’t know… but I’m loving it… I am happy!

Michelle - being alive is already being fortunate, and is a reason to feel happy. It is still really more a matter of choice, not the  realities of life

Mike - I guess you are right... it is both. It is morning, I am looking into the  window at green grass, palm trees, dense fog slowly releasing the tops of the  highrises... it is beautiful

Warm, comfortable, and it is nearly November...

I am happy I am here, I am happy I am...

I think one reason that time seems to fly by is that we're always mentally rushing it along.  I have to remind myself to enjoy this day, then enjoy tomorrow when it comes, and so on.  Looking forward all the time (for me it's trying to rush winter so I can get warm again) makes time just disappear.

If weather were a big factor to being happy, we have four seasons here, so I'm delirious.  8)

I try and notice all the beauty around me. I know all too well that things go by too fast....so I try and enjoy every minute.

It's good that you can enjoy every day. Just keep in mind that the every day for some people can be very hard and trying and stressful which is why they look forward to the weekend or retirement. The blessed people on this planet live in a nice city, have a warm bed, have a job they enjoy and a family to enjoy it with them. Some people are still hoping to achieve that. IT would be nice if you could go to work everyday and get treated like crap by a boss or coworkers or customers and not let it bother you but it can be stressful and bring you down. Remember that we have to walk in someone else's shoes to understand their life.

As for me....I am content in most areas. I feel disconnected from my country right now. The leader of this country makes me feel bad and sad every time I hear him insulting me...which is every time he talks. I feel like this country is going backwards in time to a very bad place instead of moving forward. I worry now because more and more people are losing their jobs and my husband may lose his soon. My peace is Evaporating with every passing day and in it's place is anxiety like i have never experienced. My glass is stll half full though. It could be worse I keep telling myself.

Jon, I am happy to know you choose to be happy.  It is our choice, no one or nothing can help us to stay happy all the time, but we can choose that for ourselves.  ;)

Margaret,

You are so true. It is like running down the hill. We could walk, but once start running, it is difficult to slow down, and we keep running faster and faster

Yolanda - I would not mind 4 seasons, I just do not like the idea of them being similar in duration. 2-3 days of winter would satisfy my craving for snow. (LOL)

Sheri' - we all have ups and downs. There are things we can change, and there are too many things that we can't.

I think happiness is not when everything around is fine, but when we are fine with everything around, whether w elike it or not. Happiness is in the balance

But it is difficult to achieve (at least for me)

Jon, you brought up memories from my childhood and commute to school - walking in a dark cold morning to subway station, riding an overfilled train, then walking from T to school, I sure can relate.

What helped me at that time was a good friend. We wen to the same school, and lived in same building. We spent our long commutes in the mornings chatting, laughing - and overall I have very good memories of that time. Yet now I value and cherish all the comfort that life in USA has to offer.

I guess there were a few reasons you are living  in Florida now...

Anna - "a few reasons" is an understatement considering that before coming here we lived 14 years in Vorkuta. The difference in weather is quite noticeable, and I enjoyed being here way more than being in the Arctic (LOL)
