Here are some tips from South Florida Lifestyle Homes to help you with your home improvement tasks this year!
5 Gallon Pails
Here's a quick tip for recycling those five gallon buckets you may have left over after a project at home. They do have many other uses than just a mop pail. In fact, they're great for storing these messy extension cords.
Bathroom Sink Plug - To tighten your bathroom sink drain, follow these steps
Find the large retaining nut under the sink. The nut secures the horizontal pivot rod to the back of the drainpipe
Grip the nut with a pair of pliers. Carefully tighten it.
Pull the plug handle upwards
Turn on the water to see if the plug seals tightly against the drain.
If it is still loose, tighten more.
Keep tightening or loosening the nut until you get the proper resistance.
Have a ceiling fan that wobbles?
Clip a spring-type clothes pin to the fan blade, halfway between the tip and fan motor
Turn on the fan at low speed
If the fan still wobbles, place the clothes pin on each blade to see which ones need weight.
Place a thin lead weight, with an adhesive backing, to any blade that needs weight.
You can find these weights in any hardware store
Use a Coffee Can for Paintbrushes
To help keep those paintbrushes in good shape, try this tip:
Cut a slit in the plastic lid of a empty coffee can.
Pour paint thinner or water in can. Half of can will be sufficient.
Take the brush handle and insert it from the underneath side of the lid. Make sure the brushes are 1/2 inch from the bottom. This will help them keep their shape.
When you place the top on, the brushes will be in the can and the handles sticking out. The brushes will settle in the thinner or water.
If you do not have an empty coffee can, a paint stirrer can work. Just twist tie the handle brushes onto the stirrer. Have the brushes lie about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the can.
Mouse & Squirrel Repellant
To keep the mice away while you go play, try this trick:
You will need some old pantyhose
Fill them with dried, crushed peppermint leaves
Tie them securely
Place them under beds, in closets, in the stove and dishwasher
Place some aftershave in the attic to help keep the squirrels out
Remove Crayon From Walls
Quick way to remove crayon from the wall
Spray WD-40 on a clean cloth.
Wipe it over the crayon.
Wipe bleach over the crayon, if you do not have WD-40
