I got paid today ... twice.

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner CalBRE# 01433049

It's always nice when a day ends up being payday. In our business, that could be once every few days, a few weeks or even a few months. I once went 5 months without a check and I'm still not sure how I survived. Keeping a reserve for payday drought is always a very good idea.

Today was a payday, a transaction I have been working on for 40 days closed this morning. I called my buyer to congratulate him and his wife and told them I would call again soon to make sure they received their package from the home warranty company.

I also asked them to call me if they ever had any questions, that my service didn't end today. My words ... My real estate services are available to you for life.

I later received an e-mail from my buyer. This was the second time I got "paid" today. I was paid with kind words. I can't take them to the bank but they are worth their weight in gold.

************

Cynthia,

We want to extend our heart felt appreciation for you and your professional approach throughout this lengthy process, you really made it easier on us and for that we wanted to say that you did an outstanding job.

Sincerely ...

************

Now THAT is why I love selling real estate.

Cynthia, print the e-mail and keep it with any notes or testimonials you've received from clients.  Next time you're having a bad day or have clients who are unappreciative, take out the notes and remind yourself what a great realtor you are and how the more discerning clients appreciate you!

I had a similar experience today.  Knowing that I helped a grieving family get into a new home was definitely worth it's weight in gold.

Cynthia - congrats on the double-dip! It is great to receive a check, but to receive kudos from your clients as a reaffirmation that you earned your money is second to none!  Thanks for sharing, and go make some more money/happy e-mails!

Cynthia,

You are so right - it feels incredible to be appreciated after all your hard work - makes it all worth while and offsets some of the less appreciative buyers/sellers. I love the feeling I get when I know that the buyer found their perfect house and I could be a part of that. Congratulations on your "double payday"!

To be paid and then be paid again says it all...who says that money is the focus of everything..? It plays a part, but people give it its value. Good job in making money and making people happy......Best

Richie - perfect ... getting paid and making people happy at the same time. There aren't too many jobs where that is true except maybe at Disneyland.

Steve - we sure get a close up view of others lives. They really put a lot of trust in us, don't they?

David - thanks David!

Erica - that's a good idea ... some days are harder than others in this business.

Too often people take the time only to complain rather than praise.  This was certainly icing on the cake for you. How nice to experience payday twice.  The note was likely worth much more than the money you earned.

If you think short-term, you can’t take words to the bank. However, in a service industry like ours, if you think long-term, you just might be able to take those words to the bank in the future via referrals!
