First let me start by saying that when I began my real estate career, I was a full-time bank manager for a large national bank. However, I quickly began to understand that if I didn't invest 40 hours a week into real estate, then I wouldn't reap the rewards, nor grow my business to where it is today. I also found that I couldn't represent my clients in the standard that I had set for myself.
In today's environment where there are not enough buyers to go around the 80,000 agents active in Texas, it bothers me to try to work a transaction around an agent who doesn't or cannot devote the time necessary to work the transaction. It bothers me that I am up at 7am and working till 7pm, only to receive responses to issues in a transaction after 8 pm and before 6 am. It's clearly obvious that the agent is working around another job and I know it's a tough economy, but really? Four or five days to negotiate a cut and dry contract at list price? Really???? Not only do these agents have challenges in contacting me in normal business hours but how are they keeping in touch with clients they represent?
Nights and weekends only? Who knows.
Question for agents out there in active rainland...Do you think state real estate commissions should institute some type of minimum production requirement to keep and maintain a license?
Normally and politically, I don't like government regulations ruling my life but it's something to ponder.
