Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington logoOgden Elementary Food Drive

November 8 ~ 18, 2010

Wilmington, NC  28411

My granddaughters are excited to be participating in a Food Drive at their school, Ogden Elementary, in Wilmington, NC.  They are already hard at work collecting donations of non-perishable food items for the Wilmington Food Bank.  Their goal?  To have 1 box full on the first day of the Food Drive.

The need is great, and our neighbors need our help.  Your donation can help a child do better in school because of a full tummy, or an elderly person have 3 meals AND their medications!  So many just need a little help, and the Wilmington Food Bank is there.  Now, they need for us to be there for them.  If you do not have a child that attends Ogden you can still donate!  There will be collection boxes at the school entrance or you can drop your donation off at the Wilmington Food Bank --

Tish, there are so many people hurting and in need these days. If we can, we should be helping.  We are doing a food drive at our office right now and have boxes available for folks to bring staples.  I hope you and I are both successful and we'll make a little difference in some lives.

If we all do a little, it becomes great.

Liz & Bill ~  That's our goal!  We have an extra empty box waiting!  We're hoping to raise some monies on our own to be able to purchase some of the necessities which are normally missing.

Marian ~  This is probably one of the best things we can do right now.  I can't tell you how many people we are seeing in serious need.

Roger ~  So many people in need of food -- one of the things we've discovered is that people on Food Stamps cannot use their allowance to purchase any paper products such as toilet tissue, paper towels, no laundry detergent or fabric softener, no cleaning products and no hygenic products such as feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, soap.  These are generally the things which cost so much to purchase along with salt, pepper and other spices.  Makes me crazy!

Blessings to all of you for your generosity!

Yes to the food banks.  My sister, a Professor of Nutrition in DE, has been President of a Food Bank in DE.  She's always donating her time to raise donations and bring awareness to the Food Banks.  We don't have a Food Bank locally but we have an organization and collect food & donations for an organization in our county to stop hunger.  When the food bank is low on certain items, at church people are asked to bring one item for the second collection.  Everyone who wants to participate picks a slip out of the 2nd collection basket during what would be the second donantion (us Catholics are big on passing around the collection basket twice, not just once!! LOL) And, then the next week they bring the item that's on the slip of paper they picked from the collection basket.  I guess you'd have to be there... :)  Great post.

How wonderful of the school to do a drive for the food bank. What a wonderful lesson to teach the children (and their families). I love WIN-WIN situations! :)

Wow, the little ones do know their part in their community and of course, where else do they get the examples from? =) I hope they get a good collection and I feel that it is important that we do our part somehow.
